Our first week back after the holiday has been very exciting with the introduction of a new topic!
Ancient Egypt is our new topic and already we have got many things underway.
This week we have been doing lots of art, not all to do with the Egyptians, but some on space which we will be learning about later on in the school year.
We had two very special visitors in Year 2 helping us with our Egyptian art that we did later on in the week who helped us to make our very own Egyptian masks. King Tut and Cleopatra told us many facts about the Gods, hieroglyphics and mummification!
We have some real artists in Year 2!
In Maths we have been looking at measuring liquids and how we can convert them to different units. The children have enjoyed looking at the same amount of liquid being poured into different containers and how it looks like a different amount depending on the shape of the vessel.
Also, in RE we looked at the importance of belonging and related this to clubs we do inside or outside of school and why we do them, who we do them with and why we enjoy them.
What a great first week back!
Enjoy your weekend!

Entering Ancient Egypt...

Pirate partaaaayyyyyyy!!
We have had a very exciting week in Year 2!
All that planning was definitely put into practice at our pirate party! We all had lots of fun doing different activities which included, a pirate-themed dance, decorating cakes with pirate flags, icing and sprinkles and also teaching the Year 1 children how to make a fantastic pirate hat.
We have also been continuing to look at telling the time in maths and learning our times tables.
The story of Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs inspired us to plan and write our very own adventure story using exciting adjectives.
We are looking forward to our new topic on Egyptians after half term - Hope you all have a lovely holiday!

Shhhh!! Listen... What can you hear?
Our first half term holiday is coming up very quickly and there isn't enough time in the day as we continue to plan for our pirate party!
The children have been looking at using their rulers to measure some complicated objects and they even spoke about how they would measure bigger things like elephants. We also decided which unit of measure we would use when measuring smaller and larger objects.
We have been writing some instructions for making a pirate hat and at our pirate party. As we are going to be teaching Year 1 how to make them, it's very important we are expert pirate hat-makers!
In forest school we have been doing something very interesting. We went on a sound walk inside and outside the school. We had to use our ears to listen to the sounds we could hear and try to identify them. We then trusted our partners to lead us on a blindfold walk.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Ahoy me hearties!
It’s been another busy week in Year 2! We have had 3
birthdays in 2D, 2 birthdays in 2F last week, which means lots of celebrating
and treats for the children!
In maths we have been looking at open and closed shapes and
making our own when told the amount of sides. The children really enjoyed being
able to use their DM sticks to construct these.
We also started to learn how to write the time digitally which can be
very tricky but all of the children tried their best!
We had a philosophy lesson when the children were looking at
grading differing levels of behaviour and saying why they were placed where
they had chosen. This was great for developing Team Player skills and thinking
about the effects of behaviour on others.
Shhhhhh! Year 2 have been planning a pirate party for Year 1
before we break up, so the preparations have started! We have been making
invitations and our own pirate flags with lots of gold and glitter involved.
We have also been making treasure maps in forest school and hiding
treasure within the woods!
Have a lovely weekend!
