Elfing about in the woods...

We have had a very productive week! In Forest School we made elves which were proving to be rather naughty when left in the classroom over night, so much so that we decided it was time that the children took them home. We have been hearing all sorts of tales of mischief ever since!

Our outdoor corridor has been transformed from an Egyptian tomb of treasures to an fantastic winter wonderland. Year 2 have been grafting away making beautiful paper chains, snowflakes and twinkling snowy houses. It looks truly magical!

Our rehearsals for Christingle are coming on a treat. We cannot wait to share our recital with you all.

Have an amazing weekend!

Down by the River Nile...

Forest School was spent down by the 'River Nile' this week for 2D and 2F. We were busy taking water out of the river using similar methods to the Egyptians. TutanCambell has made us our very own Shaduf to help us. The children also made some Egyptian bread with CleoDonaldson which they found very yummy especially when it was dipped in honey! The fire warmth from the fire was most welcome during the baking session!

We also had a special visitor from Year 4, who's Great Great Grandad's cousin was an English Egyptologist and archaeological photographer. Harry Burton is best known for his photographs which he took during the finding of Tutankhamen.

Not only did we have that amazing presentation, but we have also had some children from the class present their amazing research on Ancient Egypt that they have been busy preparing at home.

In PSHE we thought about what makes a good friend and a bad friend. We wrote different feelings and emotions we have when people behave like this towards us. We made this fantastic resource to remind us which we prefer to be.
Wrap up warm and have a great weekend everyone!

Tomb raiders!!!

We feel like Egyptians...

The start of the week began with some Egyptian research undertaken at home by year 2 which they then presented to the class. Some of them included quizzes and pictures and lots of amazing facts about Egyptians!

We then made our way to the forest where used a bow to cut up circular pieces of wood and wrote our hieroglyphics on them which have now been put up on our Egyptian display!

The philosophy man came and helped us have some amazing discussions about the Egyptians and got us playing some great thinking games in order to make us listen to each other.

Some Tomb Raiders visited us and gave us lots of lovely things that they had 'borrowed' from the tombs as a reward for our lovely masks and artwork that we did with King Tut and Cleopatra last week.

Today we are all Pudseyfied and are busy doing our thing for Children in Need. It's such fun! We are getting ready for our ramble later this afternoon.

Entering Ancient Egypt...

Our first week back after the holiday has been very exciting with the introduction of a new topic!

Ancient Egypt is our new topic and already we have got many things underway.
This week we have been doing lots of art, not all to do with the Egyptians, but some on space which we will be learning about later on in the school year.

We had two very special visitors in Year 2 helping us with our Egyptian art that we did later on in the week who helped us to make our very own Egyptian masks. King Tut and Cleopatra told us many facts about the Gods, hieroglyphics and mummification!

We have some real artists in Year 2!

In Maths we have been looking at measuring liquids and how we can convert them to different units. The children have enjoyed looking at the same amount of liquid being poured into different containers and how it looks like a different amount depending on the shape of the vessel.

Also, in RE we looked at the importance of belonging and related this to clubs we do inside or outside of school and why we do them, who we do them with and why we enjoy them.

What a great first week back!

Enjoy your weekend!
